Communication…The method we all use to share our perspective on the world. We all have our own style of communication. We are communicating every day in our own unique way orally, in writing, through videos and images and most importantly energetically.

We live in a world that is constantly changing and the way we communicate with each other has changed over the years. Long gone are the days of handwriting a letter and sending it via the post office. With the introduction of internet technology, emails and social media, we have learned to express ourselves in a very dynamic way.

Each of Zodiac Signs have a unique method of communication that can be both positive and challenging in different environments. They all have their respective element, modality and feminine or masculine characteristics that contribute to how they interpret a situation, what it means and how they express this in different situations.

Some of the Star signs can be a lot more direct that others. To dive in deeper, the Mercury placement of in an Astrology chart will help to define this more specifically, however for this article, I’ll stick with the generalised notions.

1. ARIES

The fiery masculine nature that is ruled by Mars is known to be direct and somewhat self absorbed in delivery. Ruled by Mars, the Aries native is a leader at heart and can be fiery and rather direct, preferring to get to the heart of the issue and sort the situation out as it presents. Whilst Aries doesn’t enjoy learning how they may have gone wrong in their approach, if you are fair in how you share this with them, they will appreciate and respect your honesty. A pet peeve for an Aries is, someone who is all talk and no action. They will take you at your word. If you say you’re going to do something, they have a good memory and will hold you accountable if you don’t follow through. 

2. TAURUS

The earthy, sensual and feminine nature of Taurus means that their communication style is channelled through their five senses and life experience. The Taurean communication style is based on their observations and experience. They learn through what they see, hear, touch, taste and smell and this can create a black and white view of the world. They rarely like to admit when they are wrong and prefer to communicate in short and meaningful ways, so as not to confuse the message they are conveying. Having a strong mind and a need for structure is also reflected in their communication style. Whilst they might appear to be stubborn, most of the time they are simply standing for what they have experienced throughout their lives and stored in their knowledge base.

3. GEMINI

Known as the communication sign of the Zodiac. The airy and masculine nature of Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, the messenger of the Gods. Geminis are renowned for having a short attention span, with the ability to learn a little bit about a lot of things and jump from one topic to another in the same conversation. Whilst this can be confusing for others, they know exactly what they are talking about and they are not afraid to say what is on their minds. They are excited easily and can be very good at covering a wide range of topics to a wide range of audiences. When bored or challenged, they can also be prone to gossiping, antagonism and rather argumentative until they have more clarity around a situation.

4. CANCER

Known as the nurturers of the Zodiac, the watery and feminine nature of Cancerians tends to listen and take everything in before they speak. They are mostly caring and empathic, expressing their attention in a warm, gentle and compassionate manner that is concerned for you and your welfare. Cancerians can appear to be quiet and reserved as they look, listen take everything in. However, when they have an opinion that is in alignment with their values, belief systems or intuition they will communicate directly. They look for solutions and how to encourage others to take their own initiative to help themselves. However, when challenged or hurt the Cancerian communication style can come across as guarded, cold and aloof, manipulative and passive aggressive when getting their point across.

5. LEO

As a fiery, heart centred masculine sign, there is always a dramatic flair to the communication style of a Leo. Drama is performance in action and Leo tends to express this in their own way with conversations that are either loud and boisterous or serious and definite undertones. They tend to say what they mean and mean what they say in a direct, but heart felt manner. They are working with their ego in both positive and challenging ways. Driven by strength and courage or fear and insecurity, Leos will look for validation or approval from others to back up their statements. When challenged, they can fire up quickly and roar, become aggressive or patronising as they express their point of view.

6. VIRGO

The earthy and humanitarian nature of Virgo is focused on thinking, analysing and communicating for a purpose. Virgos tend to ask questions and listen for the answers before sharing their points of view on a topic. They love a good deep conversation and pay attention to everything that is being conveyed to them, whilst looking at all angles and how they can respond to keep the conversation going. With work and service as a central focus for them, Virgos look for how each of the messages verbally, written or through video and images can communicate their perspective. Known as the perfectionist of the Zodiac, Virgos can also be hyper sensitive and critical, nagging and sometimes nasty when feeling challenged, criticised or provoked.

7. LIBRA

The intellectual and interpersonal nature of Libra is focused on relationships, equality and balance. They typically have a friendly and approachable nature and prefer to participate positive and proactive conversations that will lead to a win/win situation for all. As one of the most forgiving signs in the Zodiac with a strong sense of fairness and justice, Librans like to pay attention to the rules or the law and get all the facts before they decide on anything and express their opinion. They are mediators of the Zodiac and will ask a lot of questions to gain all the facts in any situation. When challenged or unfairly treated, they can tend to be judgemental, argumentative and scathing in their response.

8. SCORPIO

The watery depth and intensity of feminine Scorpio can be both provocative and enticing. They are passionate about what they believe in and they’re not afraid to share what is on their mind or say what other people are thinking. They are both comfortable with one on one and group communication and whilst they prefer to stay backstage, they will take the reins and communicate in different ways if they are required to. They will keep you on your toes by listening to or paying attention to everything and leaving no stone unturned whilst calling everything as they see it. When challenged or wronged, the Scorpion sting can be nasty. There is no room for error and they will only speak to people who they can trust.

8. SAGITTARIUS

Education, expansion, truth and integrity is very important to fiery and masculine Sagittarius and this is obvious in their methods of communication. Known as the sign of silence while they identify all the details and the higher learning in every situation, Sagittarians can spot holes in a story or situation like Swiss cheese. They value freedom of expression and speech as a learning opportunity. However, when challenged or they feel they are being lied to, they can be as subtle as a ton of bricks and shoot from the hip with their version of the truth. They can also be easily distracted by excitement and this can lead to them being non committal or evasive methods of communication to avoid being pinned down or held accountable.

8. CAPRICORN

The earthy and structured approach of Capricorn can lead to a more serious communication style. Known as the entrepreneurial leader of the Zodiac, Capricorns are careful with their words and methods of conveying their messages to reinforce or let go of their authority and responsibility in each situation. With a mind for productivity, time, energy and money is important to Capricorns and they prefer to stick to the facts in all situations by getting straight to the point in each situation they are communicating in. When challenged, they can appear cold and abrasive, through manipulation of the facts and become evasive, obnoxious and direct by placing blame elsewhere or look for a way to shift the responsibility off their shoulders on to someone else.

8. AQUARIUS

Communication is everything to airy and masculine Aquarius. Their social consciousness and connection with technology leads to an inclusive style of communication. Aquarians are natural facilitators and project managers. With a focus on friendships and social situations, they have an objective ability to encourage collaboration, freedom of speech and keep everyone in the loop. Aquarians like to ask questions whilst reserving their right to focus on all perspectives before making a decision that will impact everyone involved. When challenged, they can stubbornly stand their ground. They also have a tendency to let their mouth to go into gear before their brain does.  This can lead to them being politically incorrect, detached in their delivery of their version of the facts and a breakdown in communication as a result.

8. PISCES

The dreamy and watery nature of Pisces communication can be compassionate, yet unpredictable and elusive. Driven by empathy, compassion and imagination, Pisceans have the intuitive ability to tap into the feelings and energy of others and feel what they are working with to interpret each situation. They have the capacity to be great listeners through their understanding of the psychology of the situation communicating what needs to be shared at the time. However, they also have a tendency to take on more than they need to and this too can lead to them becoming overloaded. When challenged, Pisceans can also become one sided, stubborn, ignorant, evasive and destructive with an unwillingness to pay attention to or take in all sides of the situation.

Communication is a two way street, we are all sending and receiving messages on a continual basis. Whilst most of us have initially learned to communicate through our families, friends and educators, we each have our own way of determining what these messages mean to us. Through our own internal dialogs, we develop our own communication styles to navigate our journey of life
